The Marshall Plan Brochure_
The U.S. State Department was celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Marshall Plan and it’s effects on post-World War II Europe. The Marshall Plan was an initiative to help rebuild European economies after the end of WWII. The U.S. gave $17 billion (approx. $160 billion in current dollar value) beginning in April 1948 and helped rebuild war-devastated regions, remove trade barriers, modernize industry, and essentially got Europe back on its feet. Because of the historic nature of the piece, I really wanted to employ photographs that captured the zeitgeist of the times, and provide enough space for them to make a large impression on the reader. In the end, I was quite happy I was allowed to get away with so much “white” space throughout the brochure as government agencies don’t tend to place high importance on design for their collateral materials. I felt I had snuck one by them.
